INFORMS Article on Decision Scientist
(This was originally on LinkedIn, posting here to keep it in one place)
The term "Data Scientist" took off during the analytics movement. This term includes a lot of different skills. To differentiate skills, we are seeing a rise in the job title "Decision Scientist." Since data science is a common term, it is easy to understand what the role of a decision scientist would be on a team of data scientists. This person would help build models that turn data into decisions.
In this article, Jeff Camm and I argue that the INFORMS (Operations Research, Optimization, etc) community should go all in with this job title. This is what we do.
Anyway, enjoy the article.
(Anand Subramanian, we pulled a quote from your s.t. podcast with Dimitris Bertsimas about the importance of names).
