Training the Next Generation of Decision Scientists: Northwestern's Client Project Challenge
On March 27, we are kicking off our annual Client Project Challenge (our undergraduate capstone). See the ~4-minute video about the program with highlights from some customers like UPS, Lurie Children’s Hospital, and QSIDE.
It has been fun talking to potential clients all winter.
This year, we have 18 great clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small non-profits, and 72 students.
The projects cover a lot of ground:
Sales team analytics
Warehouse efficiency
Reducing manufacturing scrap
IE techniques for IT decisions
Safety stock and inventory planning
Sizing dedicated fleets
Marketing analytics
Improving educational outcomes
Forecasting and understanding forecast errors
Staffing and workforce scheduling
Inventory and transportation trade-offs
Capacity planning
It was interesting to learn about all these projects. I would love to work on all of them. However, I’m more excited to see what solutions our students come up with.
A big thanks to all the clients who are sponsoring projects. This is a good way to do great work and prepare the next generation of data scientists, decision scientists, and AI leaders.
Keep in touch if you’d like to sponsor a project in the future. There are many ways to interact with our students to get value for you and them.
